Don’t look now, but there’s some talent in Blitzburghs secondary. Mike Tomlins has been trying to recreate a super bowl defense ever since Ike Taylor’s career was ended by Demaryius Thomas. He’s made some draft selections that have his fingerprints all over them. The defense has a lot of youth and a lot of speed with some smart veterans mixed in there including the ageless wonder James Harrison. A year ago I thought they did the right thing drafting secondary players in the first two rounds, and after missing out on some secondary free agents a few months ago, they’ve finally added a quality veteran to the cornerback position. Joe Haden was released by the Browns and within hours he signed with Pittsburgh Steelers.
Now in my opinion, Joe Haden made a case for being the best DB in the league a few years ago, a season in which Richard Sherman, Patrick Peterson, Chris Harris, and Darrelle Revis were all in that discussion. Unfortunately his health has been his issue and there are a lot of people who think he’s lost a step. Health aside, I think Pittsburgh has enough talent in the secondary to get them to the next level. They have enough where they can feel comfortable matching up.
I would still stress to Steelers nation to be a little patient the first few weeks, if by late October/early November Pittsburgh’s secondary isn’t changing games and causing turnovers, then you have my permission to panic
